It has been recently revealed that General Motors will be showcasing its improved model of Chevrolet Impala at New York auto show, which is scheduled to take place today. The automaker said that Impala has been quite popular in the US.
It was used to be bought in bulk and at reduced prices for government officials and corporate fleets as well as by corporate fleets. This is something they want to change, as now they want to cater to other people as well. For this, they have improved the fuel efficiency and made it as per the needs of current generation.
Chris Perry, who is the vice-president for the brand’s global marketing and strategy, was of the view that Impala in trend since 1950s and has been quite favorite among elite class. However, with change in time, things have also changed and people changed their preferences towards sport-utility vehicles and fuel-efficient smaller cars.
This is the reason that they decided to bring changes in the car. Perry said that the US showrooms will be able to see the new improved Chevrolet Impala by the second half of 2012. “Sometimes people want a little bit more, a little bit more space, a little bit more firmness on the road and that’s what this Impala is going to be able to deliver”, said Perry.
Rebecca Lindland, who is an industry analyst with IHS Automotive, was of the view that the car has touched peaks of success when 1.6 million Impala were sold in 2000. However, with change in time, people changed their tastes and sale of Impala went down to 412,000 in 2011. It is said that GM has changed all other models of its brand.
