As per recent reports, it has been revealed that an MP has seriously blasted a massive “disgraceful” Government verdict that was focused on leaving Cumbria out of a massive £10 million scheme for the purpose of reviving the high streets in Britain.
Ministers further made it clear that the county will be receiving nothing much from the High Street Innovation Fund, which is a scheme meant for providing assistance to a large number of help councils worst hit by empty shops.
The fund was set up following a recent review focused on town centres by Mary Portas, the famous retail guru.
Each council that has been selected for the purpose will be getting a massive fund of £100,000.
They include local authorities which embrace Rickmansworth, in Hertfordshire, a big gun having merely two empty shops, along with a couple more in Surrey’s Ewell and Epsom, which is said to be one big and well-off nation in Britain.
The fund has also been separated to the project named ‘Portas pilot’, for which Wigton, Maryport, Whitehaven and Penrith are still hoping for.
While expressing his opinion in this regard, Tony Cunningham, Workington’s Labour MP, said: “Any Government with any semblance of fairness would have made sure Cumbria, an area so grievously blighted by floods just over two years ago, would have benefited from this”.
