As per recent reports, it has been revealed that AOL Inc. will be selling around 800 patents and other associated applications to Microsoft Corp.
The step has been taken up by the company to sell and license the patents to Microsoft, which has been done due to the pressure it was facing from the side of the shareholders. The companies will be signing an agreement worth $1.06 billion.
The company agreement will allow the Internet Company to attain more additional funds, which it has been lacking due to the decrease in the number of customers who use dial-up-internet. It has been since 2009 that the company’s revenue has dropped till 29% after it broke its partnership with Time Warner Inc.
However, the company will still be left with 300 patents after the agreement.
On the other hand, Microsoft has agreed to make the deal and include the 800 patents to protect its intellectual property rights regarding its Window mobile –phone operating system and Xbox video gaming consoles. It is in war with Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. regarding the patents of the above mentioned products.
While on another side, Apple Inc. and Google Inc. are even fighting on the same issue and trying to guard the sales of their top products.
