Baby Mammoth “Lyuba” on Asia Tour

Baby Mammoth “Lyuba” on Asia Tour

Asia would now be witness to a baby mammoth that has been preserved for more than 40,000 years in Siberian ice and snow. The carcass of the baby mammoth is preserved in a perfect condition and has been named Lyuba. On Thursday it embarks its journey across Asia starting from Hong Kong and then traveling to exhibits in China, Indonesia, Singapore and Taiwan. In 2010 it did a tour across North America. It is a part of her four year long world tour. The tour will end in Taiwan in summer 2013.

According to the scientist the death of Lyuba would have been due to drowning in a mudslide. She was just one month old when this incidence happened and since then her body had been trapped inside the frigid Siberian river muck.

The veracity of her carcass is so true that her body, tusks and organs have remained perfectly intact. What was more astonishing was the fact that that there were traces of her mother’s milk in her stomach. This would be vital information of the life of mammoth as it would tell the scientists the insights of mammoth’s life during the ice age.

The carcass was discovered by a reindeer herder in Russia's Yamal Peninsula in 2007, and has been named after his wife. The organizers have taken her body on a loan from the Shemanovsky Museum in Russia. Her body was carefully lifted by the staff members to be displayed at the high-end mall in Honk-Kong, where people would be witness to this beauty.

In order to prevent any substantial damage to the carcass and to keep it the same state it would be transported from one place to another in sub-zero temperatures.
