As per recent reports, it has been revealed that the Food and drug Administration (FDA) has asked Applegate, to restrain the amount of antibiotics used in its food products.

The leading producers of natural and organic meats and cheese, Applegate CEO and founder, Stephen McDonnell, stated that the reform issued by the FDA is correct, and they will surely abide by the demands of the FDA, but at the same time, he asserted that the implementation of the reform will surely take some time.

He said, "We know consumers want antibiotic misuse in animal agriculture to stop, and the recommendations issued today encourage the industry to do that, but fall well short of requiring it".

Detailed reports regarding the step that FDA wants to implemented, suggest that the animals should be subjected to antibiotics only when there is need to keep them healthy. Moreover, the antibiotics should be given only under the guidance of a veterinarian.

Nevertheless, FDA has called out for cooperation from the side of drug manufacturers. They have requested them to remove the labels from the antibiotics, which depict the non-clinical uses of the drug.

The step has been undertaken by the FDA after acknowledging the use of antibiotics like penicillin and tetracycline, which can pose serious health problems in humans.
