Politics Being Run Over Health Law and Medicare

There has been a huge rush among the senior citizens who are trying to grab the perks of the health law, as the Supreme Court finally lays down the verdict on the fate of health law. But there has been one side of the story which has been overlooked. Although there has been a huge debate on the merit and demerits of it and how it would affect the Obama Administration, there has been very little consideration being put into the cost that would be incurred by it.

Nearly 65% of the cost of the Obama health care law would come as a result of the Medicare expense reductions and tax increases over a period of 10 years, which would bring the total to a whopping $1 trillion. The biggest drawback of this plan is that it is being put in place on the expense on current Medicare plan which amounts to double-counting.

Although there is nothing wrong in extracting all the benefits from the Medicare to increase the revenue and put it in good use, the current scenario is not proper for such act. Due to the escalating health care costs without the increase in the revenues, the Medicare itself has been reeling under a lot of pressure. As of September 30, it is being underfinanced by a staggering $37 trillion. This is a pretty astonishing figure, as it is equivalent to two and a half times the annual output of the United States economy. If things are not put into prospective soon, a lot of people would have to pay extra to take advantages of the care that they would get after age of 65. The politics has also been a lot murky as the democrats have not shown any will to debate the issue seriously.
