Brain Dead Woman Gives Birth to Twins after Being Kept On Respirator for a Month

As per recent findings, it has been reported that a US woman, who had been declared brain dead from aneurysms, gave birth to twin boys.

The pregnant woman, Christine Bolden, 26, was kept on a respirator, after the declaration on March 1 which unveiled that she was brain dead, for a month before she gave birth to 25 weeks premature twin babies.

Medical officials at the Spectrum Health Butterworth stated that the procedure carried out for a safer delivery of the babies of the woman whose brain was dead, was rare.

However, it has been termed that the decision for keeping the lady on ventilator was made after a long discussion with the staff. It has been demonstrated that a lot of evaluations had to be made before implementing the decision. Rather, a team of doctors was specially called out for the discussion of Mrs. Bolden’s case.

The case has been related to one of the exceptional cases encountered so far. The major concern behind the discussion was the consequences that could be faced by the woman after being kept on the respirator and then undergoing a cesarean operation.

It has been discovered that the babies born, Nicholas and Alexander Bolden, were less than even two pounds. The recorded measurements were taken just after the birth of the babies on April 5. The latest reports have revealed that the babies are still on ventilators at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The hospital’s spokesman Bruce Rossman said, “We certainly hope they make it, but at this time they're too young to make a confident prognosis. Children born this early will be at high risk for chronic conditions. It's too soon to tell”.
