Seattle’s Space Needle Coated Gold to Mark 50th Anniversary

The city of Seattle would be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1962 World's Fair, and in its honor it would be repainting the Seattle's iconic space needle in its original golden hue. This was the same color that the building wore when it was constructed for Seattle's World's Fair 50 years ago. Seattle needle was once the tallest building west of the Mississippi standing at 605 feet. It covers an area of over 74-acre which was designed specifically for the 1962 event as an example of the building of the future. Nowadays it hosts the Experience Music Project, Key Arena and other structures. It has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.

The gold paint job which is being done would stay on for six months during which the city would host various celebrations and continue to commemorate the World fair throughout the summer. Jeff Wright, chairman of the company that owns and operates the Needle did the honors of painting the first coat of new Galaxy Gold. He is the son of Howard S. Wright, who built the three-legged structure five decades ago and gave the city a new thing to joy about.

In order to kick off the festivities, there were $1 tickets given out for people who wanted to have a 360 degree view of the Puget Sound and downtown Seattle from the observation deck. There is always a big anticipation among many people who place this monument very close to them as a part of the city. Seattle needle has played a big part in bringing the city on the map of the world. It iconic design five decades ago, showed the futuristic vision of the people of Seattle.
