Economical recession has finally started hindering the life and health of people in the UK. As reported in a survey conducted by Nuffield Health, the UK workers are these days found more stressed and occupied with work for maximum hours every day.

They are taking fewer holidays and are also functioning for extended hours. Reason behind this is that reduction in jobs and financial crisis in the markets here has totally disturbed the entire procedure. Due to this since people don’t have time to exercise and de-stress themselves therefore they opt for alcohol.

In last few years time, alcohol has become a much popular handling mechanism here. During this survey around 1,500 employees were questioned. As a result it was revealed that around 52% employees feel to be more depressed and pressurized since the beginning of the downturn.

As many as 41% feel to have elevated pressure at work now and 23% do work for extended hours to meet their deadlines.

According to Nuffield Health, it is quite tormenting to know that the lifestyle of people in UK has been totally disturbed due to economic crisis in the country but more than this another upsetting aspect is that people are adopting wrong methods for coping with stress. In a total of 100%, if around 23% people go to gym or other outdoor spaces for exercising then around 25% use alcohol to stress them down.

According to this research, 23% of participants claimed that they feel stressed about and for work even when they are out of the office for some personal reasons. 14% don’t take even weekends off; they work 7 days a week and
12% take less holiday privilege.

Recession has attacked one in every four workers. As said by Marcus Powell, who is the managing director of corporate wellbeing at Nuffield Health “This survey provides an interesting insight into people’s work and home lives since the beginning of the economic downturn. It shows people are feeling more stressed, often caused by work, and have less time for their loved ones”.
