Low-Income Mums Overfeed Children

Stress has become a part of our lifestyle these days. It is rightly said for today’s time that stress and our life goes hand in hand. The people are becoming more depressed and stressed due to many reasons either related to career or home or relationship. Many people have started taking a lot of stress without any reason which turns into depression, better known as a disease.

A recent research held states, single mothers especially who are suffering from depression feed their child higher than what is needed. They are more likely to add extra cereal to their child’s meal which can harm his/her body and may lead to obesity as well. The researchers also told that efforts should be made by the parents side to give their children good food full with nutritional content and should think about the reason of unhealthy feeding practices.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is dejected by the practice of adding cereal to bottles as it may lead to overfeeding which can cause extra weight gain among the child. They are really annoyed by this practice of the parents and want them to stop this immediately. The researchers want to know the reason behind this act of parent’s especially low income ones because it is the main cause of weight gain and obesity among the children.

This research was conducted among the mothers of 254 infants and they were asked whether they added cereals to bottles for any reason which can be long sleep or stay fuller as well. The researchers also collected full information of the mother such as age, language spoken, marital status, education, income and country of origin.

The results were shocking as they showed that around 24% mothers put cereals in bottles and they were the ones who were suffering from depression. So the government has suggested not giving cereals to children in order to increase their health.
