UK’s Climate Change Dept Faces Funding Cuts

As per reports, it has been revealed that the Committee on Climate Change, the statutory body, which has been set up to advice the government that how it can bring a decline in carbon emission, is quite concerned about increased carbon levels.

They have asked the local authorities that they should take steps to reduce the carbon emissions. Prof Julia King, who is a member of the committee, was of the view that it will be very difficult for the local authorities to take steps that can bring a decline in the carbon emission.

This is due to the fact that there is shortage of funding. King said that climate department is the first one which has to face budget cuts and it further reduces the steps, which needs to be taken to improve climate.

"Local authorities have the potential to significantly impact the UK's scale and speed of emissions reductions. There is a wealth of good work being done”, said King.

Adequate funding is needed to put plans in place. King said that it is a high time now that local authorities should stand up and fulfill their responsibilities. However, in order to do that it is important that the government should also support them
