In a recent report by the NHS Information Centre, it has been claimed that as much as one million more people would be able consult an NHS dentist as compared to the figures in the year May 2010. The remarkable improvement has been appreciated by the government too.
“I am delighted that an extra one million people are now seeing dentists through the NHS. This just shows that NHS dentistry is becoming more accessible”, said Secretary of State Andrew Lansley, while making it sure that they would make all possible efforts to continue this progress so that patients can be provided with effective dentistry. The government is reported to be working to develop a new dental contract which would raise the bar of dental treatment being offered as of now. It was told that in the year 2006 the current dental contract was brought in, under which dentists are made to earn Units of Dental Activity (UDAs) for every course of treatment they provide, and even they are entitled to complete a fixed number of units to meet the requirements of their service.
The government had earlier committed to increase the number of people able to meet a dentist in the NHS and with the report now out, it seems that the government has managed to done a fairly good job.
