The month of May, a month of National Celiac Disease Awareness, has begun and thus, alerts are being raised for educating people about the hidden disease epidemic, says a recent report.

Celiac Disease is a disease small intestine, as per the report, which is caused by modification of gluten, the storage protein portion, into tissue transglutaminase i. e. an enzyme in the gut wall. It has been found that gluten, present in wheat up to 10-15%, is not broken down by the stomach completely.

The same causes an allergic reaction leading to inflammation in the small intestine, says the report. Also, it is being said that people often even do not get to know that a specific antibody has destroyed the lining of the gut wall.

It has been found that the disease can further lead to inability to absorb vitamins and minerals due to an occurrence of osteoporosis or anemia. Further, the disease is sometimes also related to depression or neurological conditions and even infertility in some cases.

However, some simple blood tests can do everything for the diagnosis of the disease, reveals the report. Also, the disease can be prevented by eating gluten-free food for a couple of months.
