As per a research, which has been published in the European Heart Journal, it has been revealed that a group of researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Israel, has conducted an experiment.

The experiment included the conversion of skin cells into healthy heart muscles, which make sure that people, who have been affected with heart attack, are able to live longer. Studies have been done in the past where skin cells were used to make heart muscles from young people.

It is the first research, which has taken stem cells from elderly and diseased patients to make healthy heart muscles. “What is new and exciting about our research is that we have shown that it's possible to take skin cells from an elderly patient with advanced heart failure”, said lead researcher Lior Gepstein, who is a Professor of cardiology at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Lior said that the heart muscle cells were as effective as those of young adults. The study researchers were of the view that it is one of the major advancements being done to treat the disease. Lior said that further research need to be done on the matter.
