Canada’s 2011 Census to Release on Tuesday

The 2011 Census is to be released on Tuesday by Statistics Canada, which according to a recent report would be surprising for many.

It is being said that the census on age and gender would throw light on a new picture of Canada. It would be showing the increasing number older people in the country as compared to the young ones.

The data previously revealed in February had however shown a 5.9% increase in the total population, which was noted to be 33,476,688, over the 2006 census. But, the new census is being expected to show even a new face.

The report has noted that census to census, Canada has been realizing more number of elderly people. Doug Norris, Senior Vice President and Chief Demographer at Environics Analytics, said that some eastern provinces would clearly see more seniors than children below 15 years of age for the first time ever.

Further, another surprise would probably be that male/female ratio would be nearly equal. “Sometimes I feel that aging is used as a bit of an excuse. It’s important and presents us with some challenges, no doubt, it’s not necessarily the deal breaker on things like health care costs or the pension debate”, said Norris.
