A group of researchers from Melbourne suggests people with high-heart disease risks to freely go for dark chocolates, a recent report has revealed, saying these lower down the risks significantly.
While the strategy is simple and effective, it is cost-effective as well, says the team, which conducted a survey on almost 2000 people at a risk of suffering a heart disease in their later life. It has been told that the chocolate costs only $40 per head a year.
The survey has revealed that consumption of 100g of dark chocolate each day is highly helpful in cutting the risk. An excellent result came in front after participants remained in adherence with the team’s suggestion of taking a chocolate everyday for a period of ten years.
It was noted that the same was helpful in preventing nearly 85 fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events per 10,000 people. However, the rate of heart disease risks was noted to have reduced only by less than 1%, says Monash University researcher Prof. Chris Reid, the cheaper strategy can but reduce the cost of heart attack and stroke surgeries.
“The study did not take into account weight gain but the potential benefits on blood pressure and cholesterol would outweigh weight gain”, said he.
