A recent research has revealed a possible link between strong bones and breast cancer return risk. It was claimed by the NCIC Clinical Trials Group (NCIC CTG) located at Queen’s University that those patients who have been prescribed with the treatment of an aromatase inhibitor and were simultaneously on a medication of osteoporosis were more likely to face the return of breast cancer.

While a lot was known about aromatase inhibitor (AI) which is used to negate the risk of breast cancer return, it is for the first time that all in all a different angle of the same has been revealed.

“Results of the study suggest that preventing this deterioration in bone health by using commonly-used therapeutics known as bisphosphonates may have an additional positive effect in decreasing the risk of breast cancer recurrence”, said says Lois Shepherd, Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University, physician coordinator at the NCIC Clinical Trials Group and a pathologist at Kingston General Hospital.

It is believed that there is a lot which can be revealed with the research about how to take care of postmenopausal women so that they can be given the best possible treatment.
