A study in health affairs has found some facts about the improper usage of Medicare among elderly. It is being said that about one in eight people who enter the program still have to wait for two years and some even longer to seek a physical examination. This is an eye-opener as the program was started to ensure that a free checkup is given to the seniors who enter the program.

However, the report did not suggest that due to this delay, there was anyone who got sick. On the contrary, patients who waited were less likely to have chronic disease and more likely to believe they would live at least another decade.

President Obama has also given a speech concerning his health plan in which he stated, “All insurance plans are required to cover preventative care at no cost which includes coverage of contraceptive services such as birth control”.

But in reality, there is a double standard which is evident if looked carefully at the details and guidelines of other government-run health care programs such as Medicare. There have been many debates on the workability of Medicare and this report has added to that fire.
