Dark Chocolate For Years May Shove Off Risk Of Cardiovascular Events

In a recent report, it has been claimed that there are chances that having dark chocolate daily can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. It was told that having dark chocolate can help reducing the total number of cardiovascular concerns by as much as 85 per 10,000 populations. However, one would have to follow the regime for a period of 10 years.

It was claimed by a team led by Chris Reid, PhD, of Monash University in Melbourne, that this is by far the most cost effective method to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. "Evidence to date suggests that the chocolate would need to be dark and of at least 60% to 70% cocoa, or formulated to be enriched with polyphenols”, said the team in BMJ.

It was claimed that during a trail, the team examined data from patients in the Australian Diabetes, Obesity, and Lifestyle study, and found that those who had dark chocolate were reported with lower BP and lipid levels. With the help of a Markov model, the team managed to understand the results of having dark chocolate for long term.

While the team is quite sure of the results, there is need for extended research to be done so that it can be incorporated in clinical implications.
