Federal and State Authorities Charge 98 People for Drug Trafficking and Abuse

As per recent reports, it has been revealed that federal and state authorities have held 98 people in New York and Long Island and charged them for trafficking and selling painkillers and prescription drugs illegally. It has been reported that the 97 people charged also include two doctors and a nurse.

Loretta Lynch, the U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York said, “The charges follow a crackdown on traffickers who stole or forged prescriptions to obtain large quantities of painkillers that could be illegally resold to users, and on doctors and nurses who knowingly helped traffic the drugs”.

It has been recovered that the crackdown mission was initiated in February by the US Attorney and was also coordinated by other partners. The team collaborated to fight against the increasing threat of drug trafficking and abuse.

Moreover, the team has joined forces to fight against trafficking of cocaine and other drugs, including narcotics.

Previous reports suggest that crimes related to the forgery had increased, including two deadly crimes, which occurred in 2011. First of the case was reported in January, when during a robbery at a pharmacy at Suffolk country, four people were murdered and the other one in December, when a federal agent tried to stop similar robbery and was shot dead.
