Widespread Discrimination Towards Epilepsy Victims Alleged

It seems that there is a lot suffering in store for epilepsy victims as a recent survey claimed that there is rising scar of discrimination against those who are dealing with epilepsy. Commissioned by charity Quarriers, the survey is being touted as among the largest-ever UK-wide surveys conducted ever.

It was found that some 69% of the total 505 questioned were of the view that they are scared of what others would say about them if they had a seizure in public and that’s what makes them stick to their home. With as many as
600,000 people in the UK affected with the same, it has become all the more imperative that some sort of cure is being devised for them so that they can have a normal life just like others.

It is believed that generally, people have made a derogatory opinion about epileptic and that’s what makes it all the more difficult for the victims to face. “It appears we are stuck in the dark ages when it comes to how we treat those who suffer from one of the most common neurological conditions. These attitudes simply have to change - and fast”, said Gerard Gahagan, head of clinical services at the charity,

With discrimination towards people with epilepsy widespread, there is need for authorities concerned to take some step towards the same so that the current situation can be improved before it reaches the worst level.
