Anti-Abortion Activists Question Labels in Contraception Pills

A recent report claims that morning-after pills containing labels like prevention of fertilized eggs from being implanted in a woman’s uterus, are completely misleading.

It is being said that no science proves that medications like Plan B One-Step, Ella and NextChoice function by preventing implantation of the egg. Also, critics and anti-abortion activists say that blocking fertilization from happening is more like abortion.

The Obama administration’s health care law is also being opposed on the basis that it asks insurers to pay for these pills.

It has been revealed that emergency contraception does not trigger the prevention of implantation. But rather it alters the uterus’s lining, thickens cervical mucus, causing trouble for sperm to get around.

Also, the report has found that contraception pills delay ovulation so as to stop sperm from reaching the egg. Ovulation is a process of release of eggs from the ovaries that happens before fertilization.

Even without evidence, the FDA had been refusing the drug makers to change the language of the label for some unknown reason. Thus, it is again being asked to replace the existing labels with new labels containing complete and correct information so that people do not suffer.
