It seems that drinking coffee has a lot to offer to aged people as it has been claimed that it can actually shove off the risk of Alzheimer's disease. It was claimed after a joint research was done by researchers at the University of South Florida and the University of Miami.
For the research, the team examined some 124 people of the age from 65 to 88 in order to check if the caffeine levels found in their blood can affect their cognitive ability. It was found that those who over the course of research developed full-blown Alzheimer's disease from the earlier reported mild cognitive impairment (MCI) were those who had reduced blood caffeine levels.
“We found that 100 per cent of the MCI patients with plasma caffeine levels above the critical level experienced no conversion to Alzheimer's disease during the two-to-four-year follow-up period”, said co-author Dr. Gary Arendash in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. Thus, it is believed that one should drink coffee regularly in order to avert the risk of the disease in the first place.
While the results of the study are being applauded by one and all, there is need to do further research on the same so that some concrete assertions can be made on the same which can further be used for clinical applications.
