It seems that the fight posed by Campaigner Andy Strangeway to get the Lay-by signs removed has finally given the desired results as it has been claimed that signs saying drivers “no overnight parking” would not be categorized as illegal.
“Regulations have changed since the signs were erected. The signs concerned pre-date Transport Scotland and, following a review, we have instructed our operating companies to remove them in the coming weeks”, said a spokesperson from Transport Scotland, while confirming the removal of the signs 31 August.
It was in the last year that the man started calling for removing them after he claimed that such signs are not pleasant sight for tourists to the Highlands. He has been an adventurer since long time and had become the first person to land and sleep on all 162 Scottish islands in 2007.
There is need for bike drivers like him to take rest in between while moving for a long journey and that’s what made him press for such signs which are more or less affecting bike drivers.
While it was claimed that such signs were kept in order to promote safe driving on the lay-bys and to keep the traffic in order, they would not be removed during a rolling programme on the roads in the Highlands.
