Northwestern University researchers claim that progenies of older fathers tend to live longer than those of average aged fathers, as per a report published recently in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"If our recent ancestors waited until later in adulthood before they reproduced, it would make sense for our bodies to prepare for something similar by investing the extra resources necessary to maintain healthy functioning at more advanced ages", adds Christopher W. Kuzawa, associate professor of anthropology.

It is being said by the team that those children whose fathers had chose to reproduce at a later stage of life may have high life expectancy. Along with inheritance of longer telomeres by children of older fathers, the link between paternal age and offspring telomere length is also long.

Telomeres are DNAs located at the ends of chromosomes. It has been told that children with shorter telomeres often suffer ill health with age, while longer ones helps in slowing down aging. Also, Dan T. A. Eisenberg, doctoral candidate in anthropologist has affirmed that older fathers help children to face fewer accidents.
