A recent research has given thumbs down to fish-oil supplements in terms of shoving off dementia risk. It has been claimed after previous studies on the same were reviewed. Nonetheless, there is need for doing extensive studies on the same theme.

While it is being recommended that one should take least two portions of fish a week so that they can shove off heart disease risk, there has not been any concrete evidence which can claim about its benefits on reducing dementia risk.

The study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal, showed that those who took omega-3 during the trails didn’t show any significant difference in their cognitive development and mental performance, thereby making it all the more clear that eating hell lot of fish such as mackerel, salmon and sardines cannot suffice the purpose of averting dementia risk.

"While taking omega-3 supplements may not be the key to staving off cognitive problems, eating a healthy balanced diet, including fish and other natural sources of omega-3, is important for maintaining good health”, said Dr. Marie Janson of Alzheimer's Research UK.

There is need to include a healthy diet in daily life so that there can be both physical and mental health attained in the time to come.
