The University of California at Berkeley is opposing the expanding use of electric cars saying these are neither clean nor green, as per a recent report.

A book named ‘Green Illusions: The Dirty Secrets of Clean Energy and the Future of Environmentalism’ has also been published by the team after a visit to scholar Ozzie Zehner.

It is being said by the team that while Zehner’s agenda has probably came out of the concept that bicycle use could help many to avoid cars. The concerns are right that increasing solar cells and wind turbines so as to cut fuel use in the U. S., could rather bring a significant increase in fossil fuel use.

The report finds that the same instead of demanding technical innovations by countries, would ask for instituting socioeconomic ones such as increase in energy taxes over time and lower per-capita energy consumption.

"We create an energy boomerang. The harder we throw energy into the grid, the harder demand comes back to hit us on the head. More efficient solar cells, taller wind turbines, and advanced biofuels are all just ways of throwing harder", Zehner said.

As per the findings, the university needs to provide an ivory tower from where academicians can have a view of society, which is not seen from street level.
