It has been confirmed in a report that private radiation oncology services would now be given in the Hunter from late next year. It was announced after Lake Macquarie Private Hospital made it clear they have managed to get licences for two linear accelerators.

There has been so much said about the long waiting time faced by cancer patients and that’s what needs a lot of attention as of now. Even a review of Hunter chemotherapy treatment has unveiled the worrying state of cancer treatment in the region, thereby calling for urgent attention.

Furthermore, there would be help taken from health services organisation GenesisCare so that a private radiation oncology service in the Hunter can be started. It was claimed by Lake Macquarie Private chief executive John Pitsonis that the need of having another centre in the region rose after it was felt that there is overburden of service seekers.

‘‘Unfortunately not only is our equipment and our services limited but so are the number of facilities that can provide this sort of service to reduce the demand”, he added further, while assuring that the decision to add more service would surely relax the current healthcare system, thereby making patients to get themselves treated in the region itself.
