While there would hardly be any doubt that mental health issues are being looked down by people, a recent attempt made by two MPs has sent a message across such discriminators. It was only after Tory MP Charles Walker shared that he had suffered with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for as much as 30 years.

“On occasions it is manageable and, on occasions, it becomes quite difficult. It takes you to some quite dark places”, said Mr. Walker, MP for Broxbourne.

On the same lines, his Labour colleague Kevan also told that he had been through depression, thereby sending a clear message that mental health issues must not be ridiculed. With the reports of the MPs sharing their hidden problems in open platform hit the contours of society, words of praise started showering on them for making such a brave attempt.

With one in four likely to face the same in the UK, the underlying issue of mental health has always been mocked at. Instead of giving it the desired level of attention, such cases are being rubbed off the shoulder.

There is a dire need to take steps in the same direction so that a lot can be done to deal with the stigma attached with mental health issues.
