Antarctica was not as bone chilling as it is now. A recent research has revealed that Antarctica was much warmer place some 20 decades back and was quite similar to Iceland in terms of its prevailing temperature.
Researcher Sarah Feakins, who is an assistant professor of Earth sciences, told that their main aim was to study the change in the temperature and also to predict the future changes. In order to do that, the study researchers took the plant leaf sample from the Ross Ice Shelf.
After assessing the waxed leaf, it was revealed that Antarctica was quite warm. "Just as history has a lot to teach us about the future, so does past climate. This record shows us how much warmer and wetter it can get”, said Sarah.
Sarah revealed about her next plans that they are going to study about the past vegetation and for it, they are going to conduct research using marine sediment. Sarah said that if one wants to know about past vegetation then nothing best than assessing the fossil deposits.
It has been further revealed that in order to know more about the issue, an international collaboration is needed. An in-depth study is needed on this matter, said Sarah.
