Experimental Results of a Particle Challenge Standard Model

It has been almost more than a decade since physicists have been performing several experiments. However, finally they are at the point, where they are left with gathering all data collected and reform one of the major scientific principles, the Standard Model of particle physics.

Results obtained after conducting BaBar experiment at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, scientists have claimed that they have observed a particle’s decompositions occurred at a speed, which was more than that suggested using the Standard Model.

BaBar, which is a high-energy physics experiment based at the U. S. Department of Energy’s (DOE), showed that decomposition of a specific type of particle ‘B to D-star-tau-nu’ takes place more consecutively than predictions of the Model.

Scientists have claimed that the new findings are interesting and exciting. However, BaBar spokesperson Michael Roney of the University of Victoria in Canada, said “But before we can claim an actual discovery, other experiments have to replicate it and rule out the possibility this isn’t just an unlikely statistical fluctuation”.

Moreover, BaBar Physics Coordinator Abner Soffer, Associate Professor at Tel Aviv University, affirmed that if these excess decompositions are proved, then they will have to search out for the cause behind it.
