There has been a huge outbreak in the Southern Alberta region with a lot of cases emerging related to whooping cough. Till date, it led to four children being hospitalized. The number is expected to grow further as more and more cases emerge. In the wake of this, in order to curb the situation and to ensure that there is no further spread of the disease, a doctor has urged the general public to make sure that their kids get their vaccination shot at time.
The chief medical officer, Dr. Andre Talbot said that there is need for more awareness among people to ensure that immunization is taken seriously.
As people have become complacent about immunizing their kids, there is a sudden burst in the number of cases and with the onset of whooping cough, there are many children who have been caught unguarded.
He said, “It’s one of those messages that’s kind of dull, but we have to keep working at all the time, which is that these diseases haven’t gone away”. The health services in Alberta have also decided to open various clinics in order to ensure that almost all the kids are immunized from whooping cough.
