In a recent report, it has been claimed that teens must retaliate else they would never be able to deal with tough issues in their life. It has been observed by a team from the University of Virginia that those who are smart enough to talk back, they are more likely to combat hard negotiations later.
There is need for teens to shed their fears and express their mind else they would lose confidence in themselves. It has been claimed that for the research, some 150 teens of the age of 13 were roped in and their track record of arguments with their parents was observed.
It was found by the team that those who had applied their logics in tough situation or while arguing with their parents were as much as 40% likely to refuse drugs and alcohol as compared to those who fight with their parents on the same issue.
"It turns out that what goes on in the family is actually a training ground for teens in terms of how to negotiate with other people”, said Psychology Professor Joseph Allen, who led the study. There is need for parents to understand teens arguing power which is most likely to help them at later stage. Instead of seeing arguments as some sort of nonsense, parents must look at the logics being played on by teens.
