Would Human Transplantation (Wales) Bill Be Passed?

In a recent report, it has been claimed that there would be public opinion sought for a controversial bill on organ donation, which would deem every Gwent resident over the age of 18, who stayed in Wales for minimum six months, eligible for organ donation. Though, they would be having an option of opting out too.

While the Welsh Government finds this policy as a "soft opt-out", it is believed that it has not gone down well with all. "Organ donation is an emotive subject and it’s important to examine both the clinical evidence for and against the Welsh Government’s proposed approach to listen to the Welsh public during the coming weeks”, said Shadow Minister for Health, Darren Millar AM, while claiming that there are many countries who have low organ donation rate even after having such presumed consent systems.

The news has been backed by a charity campaigner, Helena Jones, who is of the view that this would be able to change the current system of organ donation. There is need for the government to look at the Human Transplantation (Wales) Bill from every possible angle so that the underlying issue is suitably addressed. It would be worth seeing how this new bill would be able to change the existing system of organ donation.
