Night Shifts May Kick Breast Cancer Risk

Night Shifts May Kick Breast Cancer Risk

While there is no doubt that breast cancer has affected millions of women around the world, a recent study claimed that working in night shifts might be one of the reasons which has triggered rise in the number of cases. With more and more women entering the field with aspirations of scaling up the ladder, they are at times required to work in night shifts too and that’s what probably is making them a lot more vulnerable to potential dire consequences.

It has been claimed by a team of researchers led by Pascal Guenel, of Inserm (Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale). For the research, some 3,000 women in France were examined on the basis of night shifts between 2005 and 2008, and it was found that those who worked in such late shifts suffered from health issues due to disruption of the normal sleep-wake cycle. Published in the British Journal of Cancer, the research got financial backing from the Health and Safety Executive.

There are in excess of 1.3 million new cases diagnosed and a lot many are expected to be identified with the same. There is need to do extended research on the same underlying theory so that a lot more can be revealed about it
