Findings in a recent study have suggested that those men, who are heavy tea drinkers, are at a higher risk of suffering from prostate cancer. The study conducted by a team of researchers at Glasgow University was carried for a period of 37-years and included 6,000 men.
The study concluded that the men who were into the habit of consuming at least seven cups of tea in a day were at higher risk of developing prostate cancer, in comparison to those, who drank little or no tea.
Lead author Dr. Kashif Shafique, from the Institute of Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow, suggested that they do not have proper evidences, which can prove them that whether tea is the major risk factor or is it that tea drinkers normally lead a healthy life and by the time they reach old age, they develop the cancer, which is common.
However, findings of the study do suggest that most of the heavy tea drinkers are not obese. Moreover, they are not into the habit of drinking alcohol and also their cholesterol levels are normal.
Dr. Shafique said, “However, we did adjust for these differences in our analysis and still found that men who drank the most tea were at greater risk of prostate cancer”.
