The annual Caring for Carers Awards held at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland has paid honour to those taking out the precious time from their lives, for providing care to the needy, a new report has unveiled.
The awards are held each year to reward those who without pay support and help ill people. Also, the award ceremony is a platform for them to pay regard to those workers and doctors who support them in conducting their activities.
Coun Iain Kay, who is the Sunderland Mayor, along with Mayoress Coun Barbara McClennan has this time awarded unpaid carers with certificates to make them feel special and proud.
“Each year we run the Caring for Carers Awards to recognize workers who have made a real difference to the lives of carers and to highlight good practice in the city”, said Lisa Hall from Sunderland Carers’ Centre.
She has told that the awards are only a part of the Carers Week being celebrated at present in the UK. The week would be ending on Sunday, the report finds.
It has been found that along with carers, volunteers from the health department and social care sector were also honoured. Since, their supporting role is often overlooked.
