Mother of First In-Vitro Baby Dies At 64

In a recent report, death of Lesley Brown was confirmed at the age of 64. She was the first woman to have a baby through in-vitro fertilization. She had gone through the same some 34 years ago, when the concept of test tube baby had shocked one and all. There are many couples who struggle to start a family, and that’s what calls for in-vitro fertilization.

It was told that she along with her husband had tried a lot to have a baby for none years, but future had different plans for them. They met British biologist Robert G. Edwardsand Patrick Steptoe, a gynecologist, and after a serious of operations, she managed to have the first test tube baby in the name of Baby Louise. She had a tough time dealing with media when they got to know about her case. She had kept herself away from any kind of media attention.

There were also concerns raised by health experts that baby might have some abnormalities. "When you've been through a lot of treatment over the years … then any chance you get that someone's going to help you, you take it with both hands”, she had said after few years. Again in 1982, she gave birth to her second child, thereby sending a message across that test tube babies are very much possible.
