A new study published recently by the World Health organization in the journal Circulation has revealed that exposure to Ozone pollution acts as a contributory factor in increased risk of heart patients, as per a recent report.

Ozone is certainly a protective layer for Earth’s atmosphere as it protects the planet from radiation, but the same is only when it is at high level, while its existence at ground level makes it to cause severe health hazards.

Though, previous studies have already found that exposure to the gas causes one to suffer lung problems and respiratory issues. The new study at the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park, N. C. has shed light on danger to people at heart attack risks.

It is being said by Robert B. Devlin, PhD and colleagues that the gas released from power plants, vehicles and industry reacts highly in the sunlight. And as a result, it causes almost 2 million people to lose their lives each year by increasing their heart problems.

The increase in heart risks is initially caused by ozone’s influence on an inflammation indicator called interleukin-1-beta. "This study provides a plausible explanation for the link between acute ozone exposure and death", say the researchers.
