Coroner’s Findings over Roisin’s Death Inquest

A coroner’s investigation findings have alleged that the "free-birth" advocate's decision of performing delivery of her third child at home has caused the baby girl lose her life few hours after her birth.

The reports have been submitted by the Deputy State Coroner Scott Mitchell today morning in which he has clearly mentioned in the findings of his inquest into Roisin's death that Ms. Janet Fraser’s decision of delivering her third baby at her home without the help of a nurse or midwife has cost the baby girl her life.

Ms. Fraser runs the online home-birth network Joyous Birth. She gave birth to her third child Roisin at her Sydney home on March 27, 2009. The delivery was performed at full term without any assistance in water birth. But unfortunately, a few hours later the baby was found unconscious and was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where she was declared dead.

The submitted reports further told Glebe Coroner's Court that the free birthing procedure involved certain very significant risks that have caused the death of the baby. He explained that Roisin had likely stopped breathing, which could have occurred due to the hypoxic episode after the umbilical cord tangled around her neck. Ms. Fraser wasn't present for today's findings.
