A group of researchers from the Institute of Astrophysics in Paris has released in a new study published on Thursday that a planet outside Earth has been put to release some atmospheric gas by a stellar flare that occurred on its parent star.
The team says that the discovery sheds light on the fact that planets, which are close to their stars, are tended to evaporate.
A study had been conducted by the team, which was focused at examining the atmosphere of a Jupiter-like planet HD 189733b, which are almost 60 light years from Earth.
The HD 189733b was tested together with the NASA-ESA Hubble Space Telescope by Alain Lecavelier, lead researcher and his colleagues, the report finds.
While the team had been thinking of evaporation evidence, which has been found on one planet only until now, it was found that gas giant circled the host star in its orbit. It was seen that it became a hot Jupiter by covering a distance 1/30th of that between the sun and Earth.
"It's very likely that some of these planets are the remnants of hot Jupiters that approached too close to their stars and had their atmospheres evaporated away", said Alain Lecavelier, an astronomer.
In order to remember people who have lost their lives due to cancer as well as to help those who have battling with the same, a 24-hour Relay for Life event is going to take place at Anderson Union High School.
The event, which will take place on May 18, will continue till May 19. The event is also meant to raise funds for research...
