On June 16 and June 21, two elderly patients were killed in the psychiatric ward of Montreal’s Notre-Dame Hospital. They were aged 69 and 77 and were choked before their death. The news of their killings was not disclosed to the public because the department wanted the rest staff of hospital to know about it first. According to the Hospital’s chief, Dr. Paul Lesperance, it is unfair if the staff of the hospital gets to know about this matter from media or some other external source.
Apart from these two murders, another woman of age 71 years also faced an attack on June 22. This was a third such case happening in the hospital premises.
As told by Lesperance to the Star, “When we encounter a death on our ward, it’s usually because of medical reasons. We needed time to organize our staff, show them we were there for them … phone all the families and patients that are in our care to tell them that this happened to us … That took some time”.
After checking the entire hospital premises and wards, a 31-year-old man, Idelson Guerrier of Joliette, Que., has been arrested. He was another patient of the same ward and was found with a sharp weapon. The Montreal Police found some co-relation between him and June 22 incident.
Independent studies have shed light on the fact that there has been climbing rate of deaths in Kenyan hospitals.
