In a statement on Friday, the Eastern Cape health department has strictly denied all allegations and confirmed that the department is not in any crises as has been claimed by certain reports.
The issue occurred when a report in the Dispatch Online revealed that the state’s health department is failing to maintain efficient medical equipment at state hospitals in the province because of some funding crises.
The report also claimed that the revitalization projects of the department are in danger, some of which have already been halted and the department has to struggle to get the broken air-conditioners in operation theatres fixed.
Clearing the above rumors and denying all the allegations of the report, the Eastern Cape health department said that the department is in a healthier state and the allegations are all baseless.
"We are still in a position to maintain medical equipment at hospitals”, said spokesman Sizwe Kupelo. "The issues are receiving attention”, he added.
The other allegations that were mentioned in the report said: the department has a R22 billion infrastructure and maintenance backlog, service delivery quality is decreasing, the department it has become difficult for the department to efficiently maintain its 1200 facilities across the province.
