A team of researchers from Biogen Idec Inc. and Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc. has confirmed that in the coming future, they would be studying together muscular dystrophy affecting adults. It has come to light that Biogen Idec Inc. has paid an amount of $12 million as an upfront payment. Moreover, if the drug is approved and introduced in the market then Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc. would get royalty payment.

Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc would be having greater responsibility for creating the drug and for launching a trial of the drug. It has been informed that about 150,000 patients would be tested for the treatment of myotonic dystrophy type 1 disease. The patients hails from Europe, the US and Japan.

Following the announcement, the shares of Isis Pharmaceuticals rose by 3.1%. It is hoped that the treatment for myotonic dystrophy type 1 disease would be found soon. The two companies have been in new since January. The innovative treatment might bring comfort to patients affected with myotonic dystrophy type 1disesaes.
