Galway and its people are under a state of shock after a professional department found a home in the region with higher levels of cancer-causing gas Radon.
The above claims are coming from Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII), which said in its findings that the home has 19 times higher levels of the cancerous gas than the acceptable proportions set by the experts.
The department has confirmed that the occupants in the Galway home were also facing massive dangers as they were receiving radiation doses similar to a total of 13 chest X-rays per day.
The findings have been published in the latest publication of the department. Since last five years, the department is performing several radon tests. Almost 340 homes from across the country have been identified at riskier stages by the RPII.
The department is claiming that all the homes are having high levels of radon gas, which is also known as the second biggest cause of lung cancer after smoking. This gas, according to data, causes approx 200 lung cancer deaths every year.
Ms. Stephanie Long, Senior Scientist at the RPII said “Tens of thousands of homeowners in Galway have yet to test for radon and among them are many thousands that are unknowingly living with a high risk to their family’s health.”
