Ozone Affects Air, Make it Unhealthy to Breathe

Northeast Indiana's officials have urged the sensitive groups in the region to stay cautious of the unhealthy air especially for today and on Thursday, as they fear that the ground-level ozone can severely affect their health.

People suffering from asthma problem or any of the lung diseases are at the top of the list of groups warned by the state officials.

In their statement, the officials have warned the people in the region of an exceedingly hot weather and also unhealthy air to breathe on both the days. The concern is higher regarding the ground-level ozone in regions like Allen and Huntington counties.

The above warnings have been issued following the forecasts made by air-quality monitors and weather forecasts experts.

Experts explain that ground levels of ozone become a trouble when sunlight triggers a chemical reaction. This often occurs in the summer season when sun is at its par. The chemical reaction produced when combines with pollutants produce smog, which is unhealthy to breathe even at low levels.

Authorities have suggested all the children as well as adults, older adults and people with heart or lung disease to better avoid prolonged outdoor exertion.

Suggestions from experts: Prefer walk, biking, or carpool for transportation, turn off the engine if not in use for more than 10 seconds, try to maintain proper air pressure in tires, etc.
