A recent report uncovers that Virginia has been leading in its commitments to cut wastewater pollution realized in the Chesapeake Bay.
The McDonnell administration has announced on Friday that the Bay is now possibly on its road to recovery after the untiring efforts made by the state. As per the report, the restoration of the bay is a biggest water pollution control project.
While efforts for reducing flow of sediments and pollutants to the bay are being made by six states along with the District of Columbia, no one had succeeded. And thus, the central government took the responsibility to eliminate dead zones.
Commenced two years back, the findings have been released after a review into the cleanup process that is being managed by the EPA or Environmental Protection Agency. A significant fall in the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater has been noted.
“This is great news for all those who enjoy the bay, from weekend boaters to commercial fishermen, and it demonstrates our work is paying off”, said Gov. Bob McDonnell.
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has also appreciated the McDonnell’s endeavours saying that the same would be helpful in shedding light on public analysis regarding progress also.
