As per a national survey being taken out by the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance, it has been revealed that Australians are least bothered about their national food production. The officials said that it would not be wrong to say that Australians lacks food literacy.

The survey results revealed that 60% people are unaware of the term known as "food security" and other 65% had no idea about what will happen if food supply in the country gets reduced or completely finished.

Michael Croft, who was involved in the survey, was of the view that there are many reasons, which will cause food shortage and some of the factors are coal-seam gas exploration, businesses causing harm to farmer’s soil and climate change.

Croft said that things will deteriorate further with the passage of time, so it is the right time for the state government and the federal government to intervene and take necessary steps. Some of the recommended measures are to organize food literacy programs, so that awareness on the same can be done and people can know the value of food.

“There are many outstanding examples of food literacy programs in the United States, which we could adapt for Australia, for children and adults”, further affirmed Croft.
