Sweeteners May Help Control Glucose, Says Study

A recent report published in the journals Circulation and Diabetes Care by the American Heart Association says that while diabetes patients are never suggested to take sugars, the intake of non-nutritive sweeteners by them may help them maintain their health.

The findings have come after a combined study by the group with the American Diabetes Association. Researchers have told that sweeteners act conversely as compared to dietary sugars that often result in the development of a cardiovascular disease in an already suffering person.

It is being said that however food and beverages with added sugars often replace nutritious foods. And women consuming 100 calories per day with men taking in 150 calories per day of sugars are often at high risk of getting type2 diabetes.

But, consuming such beverages with the substitution of sweeteners may help one in reducing their weight as well as control glucose levels. "While they are not magic bullets, smart use of non-nutritive sweeteners could help you reduce added sugars in your diet, therefore lowering the number of calories you eat", says Associate Professor Christopher Gardner from Stanford University.

The results have been published, though a detailed investigation has been going on these non-nutritive sweeteners, including neotame, saccharin, aspartame and sucralose. The aim is to find if these can totally replace caloric sweeteners.
