In a new study, it has been revealed that whether the urethra is visible or not in young boys, it does not lay any kind of impact over their chances of contracting urinary tract infection. However, uncircumcised boys are at higher risk but others can also become a victim of the infection.

Urinary tract infections are known as one of the most common serious bacterial infections in children. If timely a medication is not given, then it can either cause a blood infection else can scratch the kidneys.

To confirm the results that boys with visible urethral are at a higher risk of catching this urinary tract infection or not, researchers analyzed a group of 393 boys who visited an emergency department with likely symptoms. Among the group, 40 were uncircumcised and they had a visible urethral meatus. 269 had a partially or almost invisible meatus, and the remaining 84 were circumcised.

As written by Dr. Sasha Dubrovsky, Montreal Children's Hospital, McGill University Health Centre, "We thought that incomplete foreskin retractability with a poorly visible urethral meatus may be associated with increased risk of urinary tract infection".

But after analyzing this group of children, it has been discovered that there is no difference in risk associated with the extent of visibility of the urethral opening.
